Easter Skirts part 2

I REALLY wanted to get some great pictures of the kids all decked out for Easter.  I had all these ideas of how I was going to pose them... put all the girls together so you could see the fronts of their shirts...take individual shots....  What it turned out to be was sending the kids outside with Kent and the camera right after they finished eating and 2 mintues before we had to leave for church.  And Ian didn't want to wear his suit, and he picked the blue shirt so he really doesn't match.  The above pic is seriously the best one.   I think we are going to have to do retakes.  This is why I dread doing family photos so much and why I put it off forever. I actually do need to do one soon but I DREAD it.

Easter Skirts

I haven't blogged for awhile.  Mostly because it has been the same old stuff.  And I think I am suffering from the I-want-it-to-be-spring-for-real-syndrome and I have just been itching to get outside. Today I decided to escape from my sugared up kids for a minute to finally get some pictures up on my blog.  The kids, of course, got Easter baskets this morning.  Adele was a bit confused about the ownership of the baskets and assumed that 2 of the baskets were for her.  So she ate all the candy in HER basket and the one for Kent and me.  I am just waiting for the sugar crash to hit.   She was funny though after we told her we were sad that she ate all our candy.  She said, "I'm sorry I hurt your feelings you two.  I just needed candy." 

Remember how I went on a fabric shopping spree on my birthday and I showed you the fabric I bought? I said you'd see it again, and here it is.  I have been working hard on getting these skirts and shirts done for Easter. I was finishing up the aplique and stitching last night. Doing the aplique was part of the original plan but Elise's shirt had ruffles and Emilia's had a pocket.   I thought it might look funny to have the aplique on there with the other stuff so I changed my mind. Then yesterday I decided to do it afterall and I am really happy how they turned out.  I didn't make Adele's shirt. I found the perfectly matching shirt at Wally-Marty for her.

Don't worry, I will take pictures of the girls when we get dressed up for church and post them later.  I thought about making a matching tie for Ian but Ian doesn't really wear ties.  When he is older I will make him but for now he hates them and usually refuses to wear them.  So I got him a BYU hat so he wouldn't feel left out.  Ya just have to go with the flow.

Photo Date

Somehow this post got lost in my brain and after I edited the pictures I forgot to do the post.  My kids love to go on dates with Kent and me.  We try to rotate kids and let them spend some 1 on 1 time with us.  Elise has been quite interested in photography lately so we decided to go take some pictures together. After the picture taking we went to McDonald's for some hot chocolate.

We found sticks that looked like animals.  The first one was a heron, the second, an otter.

More Birthday Fun

March 29 was this sweet little girl's 11th  birthday!  How she got this old so fast is totally beyond me.   The day she was born is very vivid in my memory because she had kind of a sketchy start.  She had a tight cord around her neck and we weren't sure if she was going to be ok or not.  And now, here we are 11 years later.  Next year she is headed to middle school and I think I am going to freak out.  She is freaking out a bit too.  Emilia is a smart, funny, silly, artistic, responsible girl.  She loves art, drawing, writing stories, Mexican food, sausage and whipped cream.  She hates cooked vegetables, especially onions and doesn't care much for piano lessons.  (We think she's pretty darn cute too.)  We love her tons and are so glad that she is a part of our family.

At our house we always have a little Happy Birthday candle in whatever we are eating to start off the day right.  On Emilia's birthday she got strawberries and whipped cream, cheesy eggs and sausage.

For her birthday dinner Emilia picked sour cream and cheddar potato chipos, taquitos and key lime pie, both from Our Best Bites.

Then we had a little fun with the canned whip cream.  We can't buy this stuff very often because it makes us crazy.

This year instead of a friend party, Emilia is picking 1 friend to go out to lunch with and do an activity.  We are waiting for a good weather weekend to do her activity but so far it has been cold and gross every weekend. We are hoping next weekend will be sunny so we can go and have some fun!  Happy Birthday to our wonderful girl!

Our Best Bites

A few weeks ago I mentioned that my sis Linda won tickets to the Our Best Bites cooking show in Salt Lake.   Of course she invited me to go with her.  I wanted to put up some pics and say how much fun we had! My good friends Sara and Kate who are the authors of the blog Our Best Bites were doing a big book signing tour in the Utah Valley and they hosted a cooking show.  All the people were SO excited to be there and it made me giggle a little bit inside when some of their fans would make comments that they tried that recipe or whatever. It wasn't what they said... just how they said it.  They were very very excited and a little bit giddy to be in the presence of two much admired cooking goddesses.  I was excited too, don't get me wrong, but I didn't get giddy until they brought out a special treat and the recipe that they created just for the show:  Reese's Peanut Butter Cup cheesecakes with chocolate mousse on top.  I still haven't made it because I fear that I will gain 5 pounds in 1 day, but next time I NEED some chocolate and cheesecake, that is what I am gonna make.  Now that I think about it, wouldn't that make a great treat for Easter (after we are all sick from eating all the candy in our Easter baskets)?

Love these girls!  ('Specially the red headed weirdo who used to kick me out of the double bed we shared when we were kids.  And the one who would trick me into putting the sheets on her bed because I did it SO perfect and she just "couldn't get the wrinkles out".)

Birthday Stuff

I had my birthday last month.  35.  Wow.  I guess I am getting to that age where they start giving you warnings like: If you have babies after the age of 35 they are more likely to have birth defects and complications etc.  And I will have to start checking the 35-44 box on surveys instead of the 25-34 box.  For some reason 35 seems like a big birthday to me.  I keep telling people that am almost old enough to have a mid-life crisis.  And only 5 more years until I have to start getting annual mamograms.  *gulp*.

Anyway, on to some fun stuff.

I went fabric shopping on my birthday and here's what I got.  I went a little crazy, no?

I loved this canvas stuff and decided to get some for an unknown project. (It has since been turned into a JoeyPocket baby carrier for my friend Kathi.)
