Job

Look who finally got a job! We were kind of fighting all summer about getting a job.  She finally got a job the "Park Place Eatery".  They  have yummy food.  And of course we had to make aprons for her to wear at work!  I'm super proud of her, and I also think it is awesome that she is learning some kitchen skills.  She's an excellent crepe maker!

Job

I realized when I was writing my post about what we did this summer that I forgot to write about my job.  I guess I should write a little about it.  It's kind of a long story.  Let me sum up.

In the spring I started working one day a week, subbing for a dental assistant who was pregnant.  She was working full time and wanted to have an extra day off.  I did that for several months.  I had let the boss know that I was really interested in working part time doing dental assisting and hoped that when the girl had her baby I could maybe work part time. He really didn't want to hire two part time assistants.  Then there was a position that came up at the front desk for the hours I wanted.  He asked me if I wanted to do it.  I hesitated.  I prefer assisting. I reluctantly decided to do it, and am still hoping that the girl who just had her baby might want to also come back part time.  We shall see.  Right now I do scheduling and billing and a bunch of other junk.  The timing of everything wasn't the best.  This job came open right as the summer started so I ended up working a lot more during the summer than I had planned.  I had really wanted to be home more to do more fun stuff with my kids.  I guess there are always trade-offs.  It will be interesting to see how this evolves.  I am still trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up.  I can't decide if I want to go back to school.  It's a big time and money commitment.  Right now I'm trying to decide what I want to do.

Committed

Our home was built in 1977.  One of the original "charming" features, the blue bathtub has been here since the beginning.  But now it is time to say good-bye.  It's a tub with no shower and we have finally said, "ENOUGH!"  We need a shower for our kids in our main floor bathroom, and a place for guests to shower as well.

Kent bought a bathtub and a shower surround tonight and we have a plumber coming tomorrow to install pipes and put in the new stuff.

 Here's the beautiful tub.
And here's the beautiful tile after I took a hammer and chisel to it.  I guess this means we are committed huh?   More to follow.

"Holy alter ego Batman!"

That's a true Robin quote by the way.

So, I have an new alter ego.  But before I tell you my new superhero name or show you my outfit I have to tell you how it all came about.  I was at a ward bbq and we were sitting around chatting with a bunch of people  in the ward.  A guy in my ward who is a dentist (and also the son of my next door neighbor) was saying his dental assistant tried calling in sick on July 5 when he knew she wasn't sick. Anyway, we got to talking and it came up that I used to do some dental assisting in my previous life (practically half of my life ago).  He needed someone for emergencies and to fill in for his other assistant and I wanted some time OUT (and havin a little bit of extra $$ is never a bad thing either).  He ended up calling me in on Saturday for an emergency and the rest is history. So, I am working about 3-10 hours per week.  It has been kind of fun.
So, here's what I look like when I go to work:  Well, at least the green top is accurate.  It was funny, the first time Ian saw my scrubs he said "Mom, why do you have "making" clothes?  Those clothes are for "making". I still haven't really figured out what that really means because he didn't really say what "making" meant.  I am still trying to figure out what my new "dental assistant superhero" name should be.  Anyone have any thoughts? After last night I was thinking that I should pick something to do with the Incredible Hulk because of the green scrubs and because while separating a suction device from the hose I broke it. (yep, I gotta break expensive equipment on my 3rd day at work...)  The other assistant TOLD me to pull hard so I did... I guess my amazing muscles just made that plastic part SNAP (HI-YAH!)

This is the part when all my faithful readers help me pick my new superhero name.  In other words: Leave a suggestion in the comment section.  :)
